The goal of a Backgammon game is to move your chips around the game board and get those pieces off the board quicker than your challenger who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon requires both strategy and luck. How far you will be able to shift your pieces is left to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and just how you move your checkers are decided on by your overall playing techniques. Enthusiasts use different plans in the different parts of a game based on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game technique is to bring all your chips into your home board and get them off as quick as you could. This tactic focuses on the speed of shifting your pieces with little or no efforts to hit or barricade your opponent’s pieces. The ideal time to use this tactic is when you think you might be able to move your own checkers faster than the opposition does: when 1) you have less chips on the game board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your competitor’s checkers; or 3) your opposing player doesn’t use the hitting or blocking plan.

The Blocking Game Plan

The main aim of the blocking strategy, by the name, is to block the competitor’s checkers, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your checkers quickly. After you’ve created the blockage for your opponent’s movement with a few chips, you can move your other pieces rapidly off the board. You should also have a clear strategy when to withdraw and move the chips that you used for blocking. The game becomes intriguing when your opponent utilizes the same blocking tactic.
