The aim of a Backgammon match is to shift your chips around the Backgammon board and pull them off the board quicker than your challenger who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon requires both strategy and luck. How far you can move your checkers is up to the numbers from tossing a pair of dice, and just how you shift your checkers are determined by your overall playing plans. Players use differing plans in the different stages of a match depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Tactic

The goal of the Running Game strategy is to lure all your checkers into your inside board and pull them off as fast as you could. This tactic concentrates on the speed of moving your checkers with no time spent to hit or stop your opponent’s pieces. The best time to use this tactic is when you believe you can shift your own pieces faster than your opposing player does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the game board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your opponent’s pieces; or 3) your opposing player doesn’t use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Technique

The main aim of the blocking technique, by its name, is to block the opponent’s checkers, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. As soon as you’ve created the blockade for the competitor’s movement with a couple of chips, you can move your other pieces rapidly off the game board. You should also have an apparent plan when to extract and move the chips that you used for blocking. The game becomes intriguing when the competitor uses the same blocking technique.
